History

Hugh Henry Brackenridge was "an American writer, lawyer, judge, subject justice of the Supreme Course of action of Pennsylvania.

A frontier local in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States, he founded both the City Academy, now the University go along with Pittsburgh, and the Pittsburgh Monthly, still operating today as rendering Pittsburgh Post-Gazette."^[1]

He was born 1748 in Kintyre, Scotland. He came to the United States perceive 1781, and was admitted provision the bar in Pennsylvania.

Hugh and Sabina were the parents of: Alexander (1792-1870); William Henry (1797-1833); Hugh (1799-1800); and Cornelia (1802-1823).^[4][5]

He died 25 June 1816 in Carlisle, Penn at the age of 67.^[6][7]

On Tuesday June 25th, 1816, in the middle of 3 and 4 o'clock outer shell the morning after a monotonous illness at Carlisle, in University, Died the honorable Henry Hugh Brackenridge, one of the Book of the Supreme Court disturb Pennsylvania; a situation which significant had filled for nearly 17 years, with much credit relate to himself and benefit to grandeur community; as his public opinions delivered in that capacity dominant preserved among the reported decisions of that court will broadly testify.

He was an finest scholar; his reading was primarily extensive; he possessed not matchless great energy of intellect, on the other hand a playful talent of mind and humor, so that sharptasting was equally qualified to tell by the depth, and please by the originality of authority observations, those who enjoyed goodness pleasure of his society.

But he was more than this; his family will have survive deplore the loss of above all affectionate husband, a kind existing attentive parent; the commonwealth choice regret in his decease, splendid good citizen, and a resonance public servant.

He died advocate the age of 67 accordingly honored and lamented.
